Protesting New Year's Eve checkpoints

December 27, 2009 by Ryan Leave a Comment

Article in La Opinion (longer version here) detailing protest by various activist groups against DUI checkpoints that might also serve to arrest illegal immigrants.  Seems like a typical piece – ICE sweeps bad, rights are being violated, etc. – but this part caught my eye:

“This is why we’re requesting an urgent meeting with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, to ask him to investigate why ICE is doing sweeps of indocumented people during Christmas, knowing that within a few months immigration reform could be finalized,” said Gutierrez. “Por eso estamos pidiendo una reunión, de carácter urgente, con el fiscal general de EE.UU., Eric Holder, para pedirle que investigue por qué es que ICE hace redadas de personas indocumentadas en Navidad, sabiendo que dentro de pocos meses se podría consumar una reforma migratoria”, reveló Gutiérrez.

Once Obama is done having his way with health care, could immigration reform really be next?

Fire Janet Napolitano. Like, now.

Jonah Goldberg is calling for Napolitano’s head to roll.  Me, I’m just waiting for Bush to get blamed for the whole thing.

Did the Nigerian terror suspect's father warn the U.S.?

December 26, 2009 by Ryan Leave a Comment

If so, it adds an interesting wrinkle.

Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, believed to be the suspected terrorist’s father, told a Nigerian news outlet that six months ago he alerted the U.S. Embassy to his son’s fanatical religious views, the Post reported.

He allegedly told Nigerian newspaper This Day that he had informed both the U.S. Embassy and the Nigerian security services of his 23-year-old son Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s activities, the Post reported.

I’ll admit to not keeping up with this story very closely (we had more Christmas stuff today, so I was startled to see this story on Drudge this morning around 10 a.m.).  But regardless of the extent of those activities, it’s be very disturbing indeed if we didn’t heed warnings from the guy’s own father.

(tapping microphone) "…Is this thing on???"

December 26, 2009 by Ryan Leave a Comment

My goodness, a lot has happened since March 2007, no?  In no particular order:

  • The economy crashed
  • The GOP imploded
  • The Dems took over everything
  • The Dems started taking over everything they hadn’t already taken over
  • The Artist Formerly Known as Jim Treacher got a real job that may or may not be real

In personal news, I have been carving out a web design/communications niche for myself in the private sector.  In other words, I have begun to use my mad writing/blogger skillz for the forces of eeeeeevil.  (More evil than the school choice movement? -ed.  Yes, kids, even more dastardly than that scoundrel Clint Bolick, who last I checked was suing anything even remotely anti-choice that twitches.)

So anyway, I’m very busy on a number of fronts, both with my day job, side work and extracurriculars.  Really, I’m probably overloading myself even starting to blog again.  You’ll be patient, won’t you?
