My wife and her commentary

December 31, 2009 by Ryan Leave a Comment

Me: So what do you think of this page I’m building?
Her: It looks good. It would be a great scrapbook page! All it needs is a little bow, maybe a button…

The new core of GM

December 29, 2009 by Ryan Leave a Comment

It’s probably time we stopped calling Buick-Chevy-GMC-Caddy GM’s “core.” In fact, this is all GM really has, assuming the sales and wind-downs of the other brands goes as planned. What was the core is now the company.

Protesting New Year's Eve checkpoints

December 27, 2009 by Ryan Leave a Comment

Article in La Opinion (longer version here) detailing protest by various activist groups against DUI checkpoints that might also serve to arrest illegal immigrants.  Seems like a typical piece – ICE sweeps bad, rights are being violated, etc. – but this part caught my eye:

“This is why we’re requesting an urgent meeting with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, to ask him to investigate why ICE is doing sweeps of indocumented people during Christmas, knowing that within a few months immigration reform could be finalized,” said Gutierrez. “Por eso estamos pidiendo una reunión, de carácter urgente, con el fiscal general de EE.UU., Eric Holder, para pedirle que investigue por qué es que ICE hace redadas de personas indocumentadas en Navidad, sabiendo que dentro de pocos meses se podría consumar una reforma migratoria”, reveló Gutiérrez.

Once Obama is done having his way with health care, could immigration reform really be next?

Jonah Goldberg is calling for Napolitano’s head to roll.  Me, I’m just waiting for Bush to get blamed for the whole thing.
